The beginning of another beautiful day! From JAQ, I get this email “Creativity And Envy” today, 17 Feb 2024, by my tokayo Francis J Kong of PhilStar (17 Feb 2024), and on the same early morning I see on Facebook a sharing by Myrna Magboo Bigueras from Keanu Reeves (top image).
To
cut it short: Mr Kong quotes Charles
Munger as saying, “• “I want to think about things where I have an
advantage over others.” That’s not a very good place to start, Mr Munger (and
Mr Kong)!
I
prefer Keanu Reeves’ take (top
image): “Don’t regret having a good heart, all good things come back and
multiply.”
Pertinently, at the end of last year, I came to this
conclusion: “Wishing Well Your Friends & Acquaintances On Facebook Is Not
Contagious – But Being Kind Is!” (29 Dec 2023, “Communication
for Development of Vibrant Villages, blogspot.com).
I also quoted there Lady Gaga:
“I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I’ve found that kindness is
the best way.”
Lady
Gaga is like saying, “If you are unkind to others, at the same time you are
unkind to yourself; if you are kind to others, at the same time you are kind to
yourself.”
Mr Kong also quotes Mr Munger as saying:
The study “Outshined by Creative Stars: A Dual-Pathway
Model of Leader Reactions to Employees’ Reputation for Creativity”
distinguishes between inherently creative employees and those who have gained a
reputation for creativity. Interestingly, the latter category becomes a focal
point for supervisor envy.
“Supervisor
envy” – Not a very good place to start!
What
is the best response to the creativity of others? 1st, Thank God for
people’s creativity. 2nd, Be kind to the creative people. 3rd,
Learn to be creative yourself!
Even
Inquirer.net has learned to be
kind (lower image): “A single act of kindness can go a long way.”
From
my 48 years of experience in writing and publishing for others and for myself,
I have learned to be kind – and that’s I am so creative. Hate, even the
milder dislike, is a prison the hater does not realize that it is
personally created.
I quote again from Mr Kong:
These quotes and thoughts, especially Munger’s remark on
envy, got me thinking a lot. A recent study by the UBC Sauder School of
Business reveals that a reputation for creativity might make standout employees
vulnerable to the envy of their bosses. The study, conducted at a leading
Chinese automobile company specializing in electric and commercial vehicles,
involved over 500 workers and supervisors in high-tech areas such as automation
and battery engineering.
You
don’t know enough about creativity if you simply envy those who have shown
creativity and not find out how you can learn to be creative yourself!
To
start on your road to creativity, learn from any of Edward De Bono’s books about “Lateral thinking” (debono.com). I discovered his “Po” thinking mode 48
years ago – you should discover it now!@517
