Here’s my salute to my kailian (townmate), Alex Tanwangco, millionaire businessman, for donating this 2-storey Asingan Senior Citizens Center, as according to PIO Asingan (Facebook post, 11 October 2021).
The title of the news piece is nice: “Good Deeds: Native Pangasinan Businessman Funds A Building For Grandfathers & Grandmothers Of Asingan.” I grandfather am proud of my hometown Asingan, Pangasinan!
Friday, 08 October 2021, businessman and philanthropist Alex Tanwangco formally turned over a new multi-purpose building for senior citizens of Asingan. It was the living son’s salute to his dead mother Nanay Vering (Virginia). Mr Tanwangco said:
I’m dedicating this building to her, to immortalize also her memory… At the same time, it would serve a purpose for senior citizens. This is our first project with Mayor (Carlos Lopez) and with the hard work of Councilor Johnymar Carig, and now we’ve finished it. This is just a beginning of our services to the senior citizens like me… I hope that everybody will benefit so that we (each) can live a healthier and longer life.
He said the building will house a clinic to serve the medical needs of seniors – he is 73 years old.
No, by all means he’s not finished – he has other plans for his hometown.
“His next project with the local government of Asingan is the education of the youth who are indigent.” I quote from the PIO Asingan news item (with my free translation):
We will put up classes somewhere in the Angela (Valdez Ramos National High School) area. We will put up classrooms to handle the education of the indigents. There are many indigents who are intelligent, it would be a pity if we do not harvest those talents.
He also plans to help the farmers by putting up a rice mill as well as taking care of buying the palay harvests and selling them in the public market.
Mr Tanwangco also praised the Asingan councilors for their unity for Asingan.
In his own message, Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr thanked past councilor Julita Orpiano, DSWD Officer Teresa Mamalio and their staff for their orderly services to senior citizens.
Folks, you have seen the results of unity of a town. Unity, I say, because this project was difficult to start actually. It was a challenge for us all on how could we start this noble project for the senior citizens. With the unity of all the people of Asingan, this dream of ours came into reality.
On the occasion were present Vice Mayor Heidee Chua and Councilors Ira Chua, Marivic Robeniol, Mel Lopez, Johnny Mar Carig, Jesus Pico, Melchor Cardinez, Joselito Villanueva Viray, and Pambansang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan President Fiel Xymond Cardinez.
Vice Mayor Chua said:
Someday, this will not be the only thing you will see as long as you will help us Team Unity so that without the contrarians, progress will occur directly.
What lessons Asingan, Pangasinan is giving all Philippines? Philanthropy, Unity, Senior Citizens!@517
