Joey Lina's High Hopes With Secretary Of Agriculture William Dar – And Yours?

Seriously? Facebook Filipinos are Doubting Thomases, to put it mildly, in the case of Secretary of Agriculture William Dar – my God, today is only his 3rd Monday on the job!

I forgive them all. They have not been reading him at all; they have been busy reading their own thoughts on the matters at hand.

My Faith in William Dar as Tribal Chief of PH Agriculture is built on solid grounds, if you will pardon the expression.

(1)   As Secretary of Agriculture under Erap, PH agriculture registered the highest-ever growth in the history of the Philippines!

(2)   As Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, ICRISAT, he led this institute from dead last to first among 15 international science centers of the CGIAR Group, which includes IRRI!

(3)   Former Secretary of Interior & Local Government and former Senator Joey Lina has Faith in Mr Dar – the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of the Interior had worked together to bring about that miracle of aggie growth where none had succeeded before: 9.6%.

Mr Lina has much more to say in his column in the Manila Bulletin online of 15 August 2019, news.mb.com.ph): "Dar's Leadership Will Spur Agricultural Growth." Note Mr Lina's verb WILL versus those critics' WILL NOT.

So, 3 things are going for Mr Dar that I know:

(1) Mr Dar knows how to collaborate.

Mr Lina says:

Philippine agriculture grew highest in the country's history – registering an unprecedented growth of 9.6% in 1999 – when Sec Dar held the position even in an acting capacity from July 1998 to May 1999 in the administration of then President Joseph Estrada.

Mr Lina explains how it was achieved:

Local government officials under the Union of Local Authorities and the League of Provinces (that) I then headed collaborated with Sec Dar in implementing various agricultural programs and projects nationwide. He knew and understood that without the primary and active involvement of local governments in agriculture, all attempts to achieve food security in the country would be in vain.

It takes the village to help the village!

Mr Lina says aggie programs and projects were implemented nationwide with the active collaboration of local government units. He says Mr Dar "knew and understood that without" such collaboration, food security was just a dream.

(2) Mr Dar knows how to manage people.

After being Erap's Agriculture Secretary, Mr Dar became the Director General of ICRISAT, based in India. Then Mr Dar Team-Captained ICRISAT from Dead Last to First, winning awards after awards – an unprecedented accomplishment worldwide!

(3) Mr Dar has New Thinking for Philippine Agriculture.

He has given it deep thought, and the original aboriginal in me approves! (See my essay, "William Dar's New Thinking For Agriculture: Now We Aim For The Golden Age!" 06 August 2019, Creativity Works! icreativityworks.blogspot.com).

Mr Lina says:

With Sec Dar steering anew Philippine agriculture, the situation is bound to change for the better. And, hopefully, new heights might be reached with his inspiring leadership and expertise.

I am inspired!@517
